FreeDB, an Internet

database for free CD information

Unlike CDDB FreeDB is a totally free-of-charge database. The last I heard from CDDB was that we developer should have to pay US$ 5,000 minimum annual fee to be our users log on to the CDDB site. This is why most programs now support FreeDB in stead. We developers use the same parameters as when we call CDDB. What we actually have done is to set the host to FreeDB in stead of CDDB .

Fields

• Genre
  The music genre used when searching for information.

• Database
  The Internet Database Rosoft CD Extractor uses to download information from.

• Username
  Your name part of the email address, that is, what comes before the @.

• User Host
  This is your host. Every thing after the @ in your email address.

• Application

  • The First Field
    The name Rosoft CD Extractor  without spaces. FreeDB uses these field to keep track on how many user Rosoft CD Extractor has.

  • The Second Field
    This is the release number of Rosoft CD Extractor. For example: 2.2.7. This field is read only meaning you can not change the value of the field.

• Protocol
  This is the protocol level used when communicating with FreeDB. This field is also a read only field.

Buttons

• Get Category
  Get a list of all Genre at the host specified by the field User Host. The result ends up in the drop down list for the Fields Category.

• Get  Database
  Get a list of all  FreeDB Internet databases available. The result ends up in the drop down list for the field Database.

• Save
  Save the options and exit the dialog.

• Cancel
  Quit without saving the options.

• Help
  Show this help page.
